Local Spotlight #2 - Exmouth Market

We are sharing our second ‘local spotlight’ this week. This is one of our favourite spots to visit, whether that’s for a morning coffee, a delicious bite to eat, to meet and catch up with friends, and even for a fun night out. Any guesses what it could be?

  • Local Spotlight - Exmouth Market.

Our local spotlight this week is Exmouth Market. We are letting you into a secret sharing this amazing market, which is hidden in the Clerkenwell area in East London, less than a 15 minute walk from Prime Backpackers. See walking directions from us here.

Exmouth Market showcases the best local businesses, from local food, boutique stores, and independant flower and jewellery shops, all located on this beautiful street.

  • Why should you visit?

There are over 30 outdoor street stalls where you can discover some of the best food, drinks, and shopping in all of London.
It is a must visit for all foodies, there is an abundance of cuisine from all around the world, from Japanese to Brazilian to French and Indian. As you wonder down this beautiful street, filled with colourful flags from around the world, you can experience all sorts of delicious smells from different stalls, truly mouth-watering! There is so much to see, try and experience, a perfect way to while away your day. See the full list of all the food, drink, retail and beauty here.

  • History of Exmouth Market.

Exmouth Market has been running since the 1890’s, where it was a bustling street market mainly selling local fruit and vegetables to people in the local community. Not much has changed today, it is still a vibrant market in the heart of the community, but now there are more stalls, restaurants and bars offering more choice to local visitors! The name was taken from the Exmouth Arms Pub which is located centrally on the street.

  • What we love.

Many of the stalls were born in London such as Caravan and the Exmouth Arms, and many of the buildings date back to the 19th century. We love the kind and friendly service we have always experienced when we’ve visited Exmouth Market. There is also plenty of options if you are veggie or vegan, there really is something for everyone! You can also find wonderful independent shops selling things from home made artisan bread and pastries, to special craft gins and even vintage homeware.

If you are travelling on a budget, then you will have no problem at Exmouth Market. You can find delicious meals for £6 and less, with generous portions, to keep you full and happy for a day of exploring! You can visit for a breakfast, lunch, dinner or even for a fun night out, as there are an array of bars too.

Exmouth Market really reflects London; a diverse array of culture, food, sound and colours.

Top Tip; if you are stuck between all the food choice, many of the stalls will let you try a sample if you ask nicely!

We always love to hear your experience to our local spotlights. Tag us in your photos @primebackpackers.
