Local Spotlight #3 - Screen on the Green

The clocks went back this weekend, so we are now welcoming earlier evenings. These cosy autumnal evenings are perfect for a night at the cinema, which has inspired our local spotlight this week.

  • Screen on the Green

The Screen on the Green is one of England’s oldest cinemas, and is less than 10 minutes walk away Prime backpackers.

Find directions from Prime Backpackers here.

  • History

It originally opened in October 1913 by the Pesaresi brothers, and it has been been running continuously since, so around 108 years! It was originally known as the Empress Electric Theatre, and it was originally designed to accommodate 600 visitors on a single floor.

  • Today

The iconic neon sign has stayed throughout the years, which shines bright at night along the Islington street. It also has kept the charm of its organismal barrel vault ceiling and dramatic red curtains. Although now, they have really reduced the amount of seats due to the new large comfy seats, they have also gained a bar, where you can order drinks and delicious pizza to your seat during the film. See food and drinks option here.

  • What we love.

It’s got to be the luxurious seats with footrests, ultimate comfort! We also love visiting on a Sunday where they off the special ‘sundae menu’, where you can build your own delicious Sundae. Check out the menu here

There is always a great offering of independant films, plenty of choice to whatever you are in the mood for.

It is known for being one of the best cinemas in London, so it’s definitely worth visiting if you are staying with us. Find whats on here.
